TAKE CARE

• Preserve any tissue that a woman passes and give it to the medical team attending her.

• All bleeding in pregnancy should be assessed by a midwife and/or doctor. Bleeding during pregnancy does not necessarily mean the woman is having a miscarriage. Occasional light bleeding in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy is not uncommon; many women go on to have a healthy pregnancy.

• If a newly pregnant woman complains of very severe abdominal pain, particularly if it is one-sided, call 911 or take her straight to the hospital. This could be an ectopic pregnancy (when the fetus is developing outside the womb), which is a medical emergency.
